Celebrating Burushaski Poetry, Culture, Music & Digital Heritage
Digicells International, in collaboration with GurenOsay, proudly presents Tha Duneshng Han Michlar - Burushaski Mushaira 2026, a special cultural and literary evening in Islamabad bringing together Burushaski poets, artists, musicians, language enthusiasts, and members of the community.
This event is more than a Mushaira. It is part of an initiative by Digicells International, a technology company, focused on the preservation, digitalization, documentation, and representation of Burushaski through modern digital technologies. The initiative aims to create and develop digital resources that can help make Burushaski increasingly accessible within modern language technologies, including the development of systems intended to support machine translation between Burushaski and multiple other languages.
Burushaski Poetry Evening
The Mushaira will feature poetry and literary performances by:

The gathering will provide a platform for Burushaski poets to present their work, connect with audiences, and contribute to the documentation and representation of Burushaski literature.
Special Sithar Performance
The evening will also feature a Special Sithar Performance by Shamsi Noreen, accompanied by her father Shah Usman and her brother Israr Karim Israr.
This special performance brings traditional musical expression together with an evening dedicated to Burushaski poetry and cultural heritage.
From Cultural Gathering to Digital Language Preservation
One of the important objectives behind this initiative is to connect cultural preservation with technology. Burushaski has a rich oral and literary tradition, but much of its linguistic material remains outside the digital language resources commonly available for major world languages.
As part of the initiative, Digicells International is working on the technical digitalization of Burushaski to support its development toward machine-translatable language resources across multiple languages. The work involves building and organizing digital linguistic data that can contribute to the development, testing, and improvement of language technology models.
Why this Mushaira matters
A poetry gathering such as Tha Duneshng Han Michlar can generate valuable authentic Burushaski language material. With appropriate documentation and consent, the poetry, language expressions, vocabulary, sentence structures, literary forms, and other linguistic material presented through such events can contribute to a growing Burushaski language dataset.
This event is therefore also intended to provide Burushaski language data that can be used in the testing and training stages of the language technology model currently under development.
